SUNDAYS at 9am (NOTE NEW DATE & TIME) @ Avantiplus Cyclezone Rotorua.
We have decided to combine the Saturday and Sunday bunch rides into one – Just Sunday at 9:00am weather dependent the day and time should not change going forward into the new year. No slow and fast ride just one for all.
The ride will be 2hrs long (or there abouts) to start with and for as many weekends until everyone gets up to riding longer (then we can add in a coffee and carrot cake stop – yum!) – so that means we will back to Cyclezone in 2hrs this week aka you will have time for xmas shopping after. The pace will be at the slowest rider so noooo body gets left behind the aim of this bunchride is to get as many RATS out riding together as possible, please do not be put off by thinking you will be to slow as you wont be.
Every ride will have a bunch leader (hopefully 2 next year) who will be responsible for the route and pace of the bunch. This person will be a guarenteed started and will be there (or have organised a replacement) so dont leave without them. Going up hills the leader will ride with the slower group of people while the faster cyclists can get some extra training in by doing reps up the hills if they wish. The leader will make sure those slower riders then have time to recover before allowing the pace returns to normal bunch pace. If someone gets a puncture the whole group stops (great for us girls – I had 2 in one ride once and I didnt lift a finger). These rides are a great way to build up distance and bunch riding skills and its just better riding with people than by yourself. You will also learn lots of tri stuff just by talking to the other people on the ride. I certainly have!
Anyone wanting a longer distance can either do an extra hour or so before or after the bunchride if they wish.
These are training sessions that Brent Edwards does every week unless he’s away adventure racing, people are welcome to join. There are normally a few who show up (on Mondays and Fridays anyway).

Time for you to try out that new strategy, new kit, new nutrition, new bike shoes, position of tri bars……… whatever this is the time to make mistakes so you are over them and so you are finely tuned for your big day! Distances will vary and you can vary your distances depending on your individual needs. Use the session for what you need to get out of it or go with the distances I choose for the day. Training transition ie the grass will be manned so no worries about stuff going missing and times will attempt to be given as accurately as possible.

If you have a heart rate monitor that’d also be useful.
The session will not be your normal hammer / Les mills type spin class. The sessions will be focused towards learning how to make the most of your cycling and over the course of the classes we will go over everything from intensity zones, bike set up, aerodynamics etc. You’ll get a ‘good workout’ too but we want all you lovely RATS to be the best you can be, that’s why we have the coached sessions… “we’re hear to help…”
