A well established Ride –
many tales to tell, many coffees drunk….this
Bunch ride ranges from 2 – 3hrs or maybe
even longer, whatever crazy hours some
people do and depending on what is on the
Race calendar. It is a good steady ride
allowing people to catch up on all the
latest gossip, get some training in, enjoy
the scenery and just have fun on a bike.
Some amount of fitness is advised, you
should be able to comfortably cycle for 2½
hours.
Here are some rules to make the ride fun,
enjoyable and above all, safe…
(Wording by P West):
We ride as a group and don’t attack like
losers at every hill. Concentrate on keeping
the wheel in front of you so the bunch
doesn’t get strung out. Naturally when going
up and down hills the bunch will get strung
out, if you are at the front wait at the top
/ bottom and allow everyone to catch up.
Obey the rules of the road (no jumping red
lights). Ride 2 abreast most of the time,
ride single file on narrow roads and on very
quiet roads 3 abreast is OK. If a car is
waiting to overtake stay 2 abreast unless
the road is narrow or the cars been waiting
a long time, it’s better to force the car to
over take safely rather than trying to
squeeze past a long line of scattering
cyclists.
An e-mail will go out to all RATS in the
week confirming the ride. If there is going
to be showers we normally still go out, if
it’s torrential we’ll probably stay in bed.
