A well established Ride – many tales to tell, many coffees drunk….this Bunch ride ranges from 2 – 3hrs or maybe even longer, whatever crazy hours some people do and depending on what is on the Race calendar. It is a good steady ride allowing people to catch up on all the latest gossip, get some training in, enjoy the scenery and just have fun on a bike. Some amount of fitness is advised, you should be able to comfortably cycle for 2½ hours.

Here are some rules to make the ride fun, enjoyable and above all, safe…

(Wording by P West):
We ride as a group and don’t attack like losers at every hill. Concentrate on keeping the wheel in front of you so the bunch doesn’t get strung out. Naturally when going up and down hills the bunch will get strung out, if you are at the front wait at the top / bottom and allow everyone to catch up.

Obey the rules of the road (no jumping red lights). Ride 2 abreast most of the time, ride single file on narrow roads and on very quiet roads 3 abreast is OK. If a car is waiting to overtake stay 2 abreast unless the road is narrow or the cars been waiting a long time, it’s better to force the car to over take safely rather than trying to squeeze past a long line of scattering cyclists.

An e-mail will go out to all RATS in the week confirming the ride. If there is going to be showers we normally still go out, if it’s torrential we’ll probably stay in bed.

RATS Spin Classes

  • Venue: Thursday nights @ Lynmore Scool Hall in the Mezanine area, park in car park next to the hall.
  • Time: Session will start @ 6pm so get there earlier to set up etc.
  • Bring: Your bike and a trainer plus 2 towels one for under your trainer and one for the top tube, a third will come in handy depending on how much of a sweaty pants you are.
  • If you have a heart rate monitor that'd also be v useful.
  • Cost: Gold coin donation for members, $5 for Non-members.
  • MC: West will be in the house to keep you honest and make sure you are all having a 'happy' time.
  • The session will not be your normal hammer / Les mills type spin class you can go to Profiles if you're into that. The sessions will be focused towards learning how to make the most of your cycling and over the course of the classes we will go over everything from intensity zones, bike set up, aerodynamics etc. You'll get a 'good workout' too but we want all you lovely RATS to be the best you can be, that's why we have the coached sessions... "we're hear to help..."
  • There are showers etc if you need to use them.
  • As it'll be a regular 'Social Type RATS thing' we'll have race entry forms and stuff like that you can pick up as Justine always stresses about trying to get these to members... hey we may even have a few post spin beers, always tastes better after exertion... you could just come to hang out and not do any training??
