What a great day - obviously from our point of view it couldn't have been a better day, but we hope everyone enjoyed the great day of racing, congratulations to everyone! As we announced at the prizegiving, next years race will not be in Rotorua again as it is time to move on - watch this space! Results are now available, for any inquiries send us an email on info@rats.org.nz

Winter Duathlon:

Results from Race 3 - 12 July 2008

WinterDu3_12July08.pdf  [45 Kb PDF] (amended version)

What a day huh! We almost started a sweepstake about how many people would show up in the rain - and ended up with about 60 gutsy, later very muddy, Duathletes! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and was not too frozen at the end of the day! Results are available here, we still have a few queries on a few times, timing company is unavailable for another week - so please check out the preliminary results and let us know on info@rats.org.nz  if anything is wrong!

Thanks to everyone for taking part in the 3 races in the new format, any feedback is more than welcome to make sure we can improve on the race!

And another great RATs Winter Duathlon Race is over...signing the deal with the 'Dean-Nduro-Devil" seems to help with the weather, tracks and trails were in great condition and it looked like everyone had a good time!
The long course was again dominated by Scott Thorne and Sonia Foote, both in training for the Xterra Worlds in Maui in October. Garth Weinberg looked 'pretty' (???) in pink on the short course and took out the overall win over this distance in the mens section. Unfortunately, some members of the public had taken down arrows in the Grinder track, which sent some of the femal competitors in the wrong directions and made it impossible for us to know who came first - so we'd like to acknowledge Mel Whiting, Sarah Beadel, Charlotte Clousten and Paula Ward, who all came home at the front of the pack! Results are attached, this time we even have a result for Paul Laing...the short course results are as crossed the line and no time alterations in time have been made!
We hope you all were happy with the format we ran the race - spotprizes over the line and a quick and easy prizegiving for the first 5 male and female in the long course over the line.
Thanks so much to everyone who helped out setting up, packing up and volunteering on the day, see you at the third race on Saturday, 12 July!

RATS Winter Duathlon Series 2007 sponsored by BIKEFIX
July 22 - Race 3 & Series Final

Wild weather was the theme for this series and Sundays event was no exception.
Overnight downpours and freezing cold southerly winds in the morning weren't enough to deter about 55 entrants lining up and enjoying a sunny and crowd favorite race 3. Yes … it was really nice in the end!

I would like to send out a HUGE thanks to the volunteers who made this years series possible most of whom were repeat offenders (especially Dale and Andrew for course marking in the rain + mud). If you enjoyed the racing this year, please consider taking some time to volunteer at upcoming events.

Check out www.sportzhub.co.nz  for full race report.

The winner of the 12,00ft skydive sponsored by Nzone was drawn and Reed Fleming will be plummeting towards Rotorua sometime soon.

Thanks to the main sponsor BIKEFIX and our other spot prize contributors Nzone, Hell Pizza, Zippy Central, Mountain Designs and Krank Dirtwear.

Well done to those who managed to make it to every race, a challenge to do so this year I think! The race series results are included below.

There were a few people missed from the Race 3 category winner results announced on Sunday, apologies for this and see full amended results below.

30 June 2007 - RACE 2

Rain, rain and more……………rain.

Well the tracks were wet, as was the Waipa event area.

Amazingly we had a great turnout of over 50 entrants with even a significant number of on-the-day entries!

The volunteers were stellar, braving the rain and pulling off another great day.

Check out www.sportzhub.co.nz for full race report.

Last race is Sunday 22nd July in brilliant sunshine! + we will draw the winner of the 12,00ft skydive sponsored by Nzone.

Thanks to the main sponsor BIKEFIX and our other spot prize contributors Nzone, Hell Pizza, Zippy Central, Mountain Designs and Krank Dirtwear.

Have a Go Day
Sunday 22 October 2006

The 2006 Have A Go Multisport Day went off without a hitch. In true HAGD/labour weekend style the weather was not looking too flash, we had some light drizzle but fortunately it came to nothing more than that.

The school competition was being defended by Rotorua’s Western Heights High School, we also saw good representation from Rotorua Intermediate and Mt Maunganui College.

The race kicked off with the kayak leg, 2km of distance covered in a fairly calm Lake Tikitapu. Competitors then passed through T1 and off into the bush track heading around the lake. T2 was situated around the back of the lake by the car park. The mountain bike lake leg covered 9km of scenic forest road out towards the Green Lake Reserve then back along the Lakefront Road. The final leg of the race followed the road side track back to the finish banner in front of the Ski Club.
The first home was the runner from the WHHS Racing team, in a time of 1:00:33. Second place overall was taken up by the Davies/Neishmidht mixed team and third place was filled by the first individual home, Sam Osborne, also representing Western Heights High School. The full results can be viewed through the website link.

Congratulations to all competitors, especially those that were out gaining their first multisport experience.

Many thanks to our main sponsors Sunspots Kayaks and Kiwibikes, and to our other spot prize contributors Lime and Zippys. Many thanks too, to the all the marshalls out on the course ensuring no-one got lost en route.

North Island Interclub Duathlon (sponsored by Cyclezone, Rotorua)
September 30, 2006
Waipa MTB carpark, Rotorua

Well folks, the 2006 N.Island Interclub Duathlon Championships was yet another eventful race. Registration in the bright sunshine, racing in the rain and then sunshine just in time to pack up. Congratulations to everyone who participated in what was a very challenging course. It was a great event to watch especially seeing a VM, OM and JM chase each other down for first place.

The shield was a hard battle, but finally it has been drawn back below the Bombays and will reside with RATs for the first time ever. We are thrilled to have it and look forward to inviting everyone down again next year to battle it out once again.
Top teams were
5th Tri Sport Taupo- 206 points
4th Waitakere- 175 points
3rd Hibiscus Coast- 167 points
2nd N. Harbour Tri Club- 90 points
1st RATs- 38 points

Full results can be downloaded here [38 Kb XLS]

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, volunteered and came to the prize giving. The event wouldn't occur without you.

See you in 2007!

P.S. Thank you Pat for all your photography. To see photos of the day check out the NHTC website www.nhtc.org.nz.
